Pendorff pair picked up for drugs
A Pendorff man and woman were arrested Friday after drugs and hypodermic needles were found in the mobile home where they keep small children, Jones County Sheriff’s Department officials reported.
John William Sims, 65, and Holly Ann Fanning, 39, were charged with possession of methamphetamine and are being held in the Jones County Adult Detention Center.
They were arrested after deputies went to their mobile home on Burnt Bridge Road to assist Department of Human Services officials who were going there to check on children who had been reported to be there around drug activity.
“We get called to go with them when there are supposed to be children around possible drug activity,” said Sgt. Robert Little of the JCSD.
The children who stay at the home — believed to be Fanning’s grandchildren — were not there, but the JCSD did find a small amount of methamphetamine and “paraphernalia that’s consistent with heroin use,” Little said.
There were at least four uncapped syringes — including one in a child’s closet — in the home, Little said.
“They would have faced additional charges if the children had been in the home at the time,” Little said.
DHS officials made sure that the children were with a responsible party before Sims and Fanning were taken into custody. Sims has an extensive history of drug-related arrests.
